CC&L Roofing Co is extremely proud to announce that on September 25th, 2023, our Co-Founder and former President Dan Cornwell was inducted into the Western States Roofing Contractors Association “HALL OF FAME”. This is the most prestigious award given by the association, and Dan now joins an elite group of individuals as the 24th recipient of Hall of Fame induction since the founding of the association 49 years ago in 1974.
Dan joined as a director of the Western States Roofing Contractors Association (WSRCA) in 1996, he was awarded Board Member of the Year in 2000 and was elected and served as President of the association for the 2004 and 2005 terms. During his time on board, he represented WSRCA on the board of RICOWI the Roofing Industry Committee on Weather Issues an international association who studies the effects of extreme weather on all roofing products, he assisted with the initial writing and publication of the Tile Roofing Institutes Cold Weather and Moderate Climate Installation Manuals, receiving honorable mention in the forward of the latter which is the only industry manual to receive code recognition which has become the national standard for all roof tile installations. Dan also served as chairman of several WSRCA committees and helped develop many of the WSRCA roofing installation details on several roofing products now in publication, from 1998 to present day through WSRCA Dan became a voting member of ASTM where he has had an effect on numerous roofing materials and installation standards in use today and received an award from ASTM at 15 years for his thoughtful votes on these standards.
Following fulfillment of his final term as WSRCA Immediate Former President Dan remained on the Industry Issues Committee and was active in the Former Presidents Council, so he attended many board and committee meetings over the following years until in 2018 Dan was asked to rejoin the board. Dan accepted a new 3-year director position through the 2020 / 2021 terms to help new directors to acclimate to their positions, and aid in development of technical bulletins being produced by the association while serving on the Steep and Low Slope Technical committees. Upon further request Dan agreed to renew his position and remain on the board for another 3-years when his final term will expire in September 2024.
Dan states that since beginning his career in the roofing industry 49 years ago and then 45 years ago cofounding CC&L Roofing in 1978, the best business decision he ever made was to join the board of the WSRCA. “You gain not only friendships but also a vast amount of knowledge by association with your peers and the educational seminars provided. I gained friends and associates across the country, many are the most highly respected and knowledgeable individuals in their fields, whom I can call on for input and advice. Through my affiliation with the WSRCA, I became a charter member and director of the National Slate Association in 2002, and while acting as the co-chairman of their technical committee, I helped to write and publish the 273 page “Slate Roofs, Design and Installation Manual”, which has become the standard for slate roof installations across the nation. I served as President of that association from 2007 – 2010 then stayed on the board where I am now serving my 21st year as a director. Being on The WSRCA Board was also the springboard that got me involved as a roofing consultant now having provided expert witness services to over 1,000 construction defect cases and allowing me to become a charter member and director of the Portland Chapter of IIBEC the International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants where I served as President in 2021.”
“I am so very appreciative of my peers for my induction to the WSRCA Hall of Fame, it is very gratifying and rewarding to be acknowledged for my years of service. However, I have received far more from the Western States Roofing Contractors Association than I have given. Today The WSRCA Board is filled with highly dedicated and highly skilled and knowledgeable directors and a great professional staff. The future is bright for the association and I am very grateful to have been a part of over the past 27 years.”
